Can a polluted river still be healthy?

That really depends on how polluted the river is. In either instance, no, the river is not healthy because it has been contaminated. Even in areas where animals seem to be thriving in polluted rivers, the river is not healthy. This can be seen with alligators. Where other animals cannot really survive in polluted waters, alligators in Sao Paulo (Brazil) have made their presence known. There seems to be an overabundance of alligators in Sao Paulo, where the alligators actually live in the polluted waters. Having too many of a certain species because of polluted rivers is still bad; the ecosystem is out of balance.
