Of course plastics can be recycled and certainly should be where possible. Recycling 1 ton of plastic saves nearly 7.4 cubic yards of landfill space. But note that not all types of plastics can be recycled. You will need to refer to the numbers found in little triangles on the bottom of most plastic containers. The ranking goes from 1-7 depending on the product. Types 1 and 2 are the most commonly accepted types of plastics. Type 3 and 4 can be recycled at some places. Type 6 is generally accepted for recycling to be made into things like video cassettes and foam insulation. Type 7 plastics generally have little to no recycling potential as they are mixed plastics.
A fact about recycling plastic: recycling one ton of plastic saves 7.4 cubic yards of landfill space. If you are creative are just have another use for plastic, reuse that item and make something out of it.
As the other users have stated, plastic can be recycled. You may want to check with your local recycler to see what types, if any, can be recycled in your area. Some areas do not take it at all, but many do. Many grocery stores now accept plastic bags, such as the bags you may get at their store, or even give a small credit towards your purchase for reusing bags.
