Yes. There are several new types of biodegradable plastics on the market. Some of these plastics are made from vegetable sources like corn. These plastics are biodegradable and often times compostable as well. New petroleum based biodegradable plastics are now available too. These plastics are treated with a chemical that when out in the environment cause the lattice structure of the plastic to open up allowing bacteria to break down the polycarbon chains.
