Can a plant live in canola oil?

Hydroponics, the cultivation of plants without using soil, is quite effective. Canola oil most likely would not work as a medium, however. In hydroponic systems the plant roots are suspended in water; nutrients are dissolved in the water so that the roots can take them in. It is doubtful that a plant could take in canola oil, although it may preserve the plant roots or stems temporarily (as in a flower arrangement).
