Even if we were able stop everyone from further polluting the Ozone Layer, is the damage we’ve already done permanent or will the Ozone layer be able to heal itself.
It is not necessarily possible for the ozone layer to heal itself completely, but scientists have announced that it should be largely recovered by the middle of the century. The report by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environmental Program stated that because ozone-depleting substances have been phased out under the Montreal Protocol, the ozone layer (excluding the polar regions) will eventually return to pre-1980 conditions. The condition of the ozone layer in the polar regions is no longer degrading but is not yet improving; pre-1980 conditions should be restored there in the late 21st century.
