    It depends on the population of deer in that area, but usually predator-prey mechanisms regulate each other. One mountain lion cannot damage the population of deer if the deer exists in non-endangered numbers. If there are other factors that cut down the deer population, then one mountain lion in conjunction with external factors, can damage the deer population.
