Can oil ever mix with water?

Water and oil hardly ever mix, but in 2003 scientists found a way to make it happen.  Apparently, if you can manage to remove any gas that is dissolved in the water, it will spontaneously mix with oil and stay combined.  The method was discovered by Ric Pashley of the Australian National University in Canberra.
