Oil removed from water after a spill is unfortunately not usable. It is considered a hazardous waste and is incinerated.
Hi bwsf. I’m not sure this is totally correct. I’ve linked an article in my answer below that discusses how oil from the Katrina spills could be recaptured and reused. I’m sure there are many instances where oil from a spill cannot be reused, but I don’t believe that is a hard and fast rule.

I’m not sure bwsf’s answer is completely correct. According to this article, “oil can be recovered for use”.
