Drilling in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas off the coast of Alaska could pose a threat to polar bear birthing grounds.  Not only will new drilling operations and support ships crowd the bears out of their habitats, an oil spill in such a tumultuous climate could be irreparably damaging and nearly impossible to clean.
