Telecommuting has its pros and cons.
It is helping fight climate change by cutting down, if only minimally, on gasoline use, therefore cutting down on methane and carbon dioxide emissions.
It is helping speed up climate change because those who work from home must often power many electronic appliances. Home offices are often much less efficient than office buildings that are better suited to handle large, energy-sucking appliances. Because of these machines, telecommuters often create more nitrous oxide emissions than methane, which according to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change, is 300 times worse for the atmosphere than methane.
