Can I save my kentia palm by cutting slits in the trunk, wrapping it with moss, and covering it with plastic?

My plant is 33 years old and while I was away it was bent in half, straightened on the sport post as if nothing had happened. I did not notice the damage until the branches started to die. Please tell me there is a way to make it reproduce. Thank you.

I have checked quite a few resources, and have not found any indication that cutting slits in the trunk for any reason falls into the category of proper care. Is the palm dying? Is it being overwatered or underwatered?

I have assembled a number of links below that outline general care of the Kentia Palm. I hope these help. Good luck!
