Well if you are in some countries in Europe, like France and Germany, consumers can return Brita water filters to the manufacturer for recycling or drop them off in stores. But in the United States, municipal waste systems are not equipped to recycle Brita filters, a situation that Clorox is trying to address, according to a letter from Donald R. Knauss, chief executive of Clorox. After some time, debate, and research they have dealt with the issue. Take Back The Filter campaign is thrilled to announce that Brita and Preserve have teamed up to create a take-back recycling program for Brita pitcher filter cartridges … beginning in January , … drop off filters at Whole Foods Markets or mail them in. Preserve, a U.S. company manufacturing household products from recycled plastic, will recycle 100% of the plastic casing. And the filter material will be regenerated or converted to energy.”
