The plastic casings of most video cassette tapes can be recycled along with other plastics. It’s the Mylar tape inside the cassette that causes issues.
Even if you can’t recycle the tape, there are lots of creative ways to reuse it. There are plenty of guides available online that can show you how to convert old Mylar tape into useable, even wearable products. If you’re not the crafty type, look into giving the old tape to GreenDisk, an e-waste recycling organization.
