Restaurant cups made of plastic, paper, or aluminum can be recycled. Open top containers are also recyclable (yogurt, cottage cheese, strawberry baskets) as are other plastic containers (milk, soap, juice, fresh pasta, water).
The lids are often recyclable, but the containers are often not. While the lids are made out of plastics #1 or #2, the container is usually made out of #5 or #6 (polypropylene and polystyrene) which are not usually accepted at recycling facilities.
It may be more eco friendly to KEEP the containers and use them rather than recycle the lid and throw out the container.
