Yes! A good organic health center or store should carry what you need. You want a good organic soap base like this one, some essential oils and fragrances, and some soap molds (try coming up with a way to recycle something that would have been thrown out, e.i. empty yogurt cups.) Melt down the soap base over the stove, add the oils and fragrances, and pour into the molds. Let sit for 24 hours or so, and enjoy!
An easy way to make organic liquid soap involves using organic castile soap as a base. Dr. Bronner’s Magic Liquid Castile Soap is a great buy and can be found at Target and a lot of grocery stores. It is a purely organic solution of all-vegetables oils and comes in a variety of scents. I usually add organic aloe vera or other oils to this soap as a base to make body wash. For shampoo, I add equal parts distilled water and liquid castile soap and it works great! It can also be used as an organic laundry detergent. 🙂
Lye soap is made from hog fat (lard) & wood ash (lye).
A big step in making your own organic soap is finding your ingredients. Check out Soaper’s Choice (an online website) as it carries all the organic oils you will need to make your own soap at home. There is this one recipe where you can make organic soap without lye – basically a goat milk soap with oatmeal. Check out the bottom recipe, it will tell you how to make it step by step.
