Clumping Kitty Litter can’t be composted because it contains a clay compound called sodium bentonite and other harsh chemicals. There are biodegradable cat litters out there made out of: pine wood pellets, non-food grade wheat or wheat bran, paper pellets, sawdust, and corn cobs. However, cat feces contain several nasty bacteria that can survive in the soils and get transferred to plants growing in the soil. Composting does get rid of most of the bacteria, but the safest thing to do is use that soil on non-edible plants.
