can the heart work without one of the chambers?

Reptiles and Amphibians have only 3 chambered hearts. It much less efficient then our 4 chambered heart because the oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood mix in the one ventricle then get pumped to both the lungs and the body. In animals with 4 chambered hearts not having one of the chambers is bad. Not having either ventricle would be lethal. Poorly functioning atrium are not as big a problem but you certainly wouldn’t be healthy.
