Potentially. Malnutrition is common in countries where impoverished people rely on a single crop to eat. This crop may not contain enough nutrients to prevent malnutrition; therefore genetically engineered crops could be created to contain additional vitamins and minerals.
Also, many GMOs contain genes that allow them to tolerate herbicides and pesticides, which would allow the use of these chemicals and therefore prevent crop destruction by pests. Some GMOs could also be modified to increase crop yield.
