Yes global warming can create food shortages as a result of changing rain patterns and increased droughts.  Agriculture is termed the “human enterprise most vulnerable to changes in climate.”  Many of the impoverished world is already malnourished.  Many of these people reside in Southern Africa and Southern Asia where by 2030, the most dramatic agricultural changes are supposed to occur with higher temperatures and decreasing rainfall.
