Can trees get too tall to pump water up itself?

    Yes, that is the mechanism that makes trees as tall as they are. Different species grow to particular heights because that is as high as they can pull the water out of the ground. This doesn’t mean that trees keep growing taller until they get too tall and die. What it means is that trees have evolved to only grow to a certain height because that is as high as they can pull water.
