Can gasoline engines run on CNG?

Cars can be converted to run on a bi-fuel system (fossil fuels and natural gas), but must be modified to do so.  Gasoline engines need to be retro-fitted to be able to run on Compressed Natural Gas.  Cars must either be designed to run on Natural Gas, or retro-fitted by a licensed manufacturer, as the U.S.A. strictly prohibits retro-fitting by the consumer.
