can fungal mycelium be often found underground

The mycelium of fungi is often hidden, and this kind of depends on your definition of underground.  Mycelium usually is found buried in the food source, the dead or decaying matter its using to grow and produce spores.  So technically, not underground.  But it’s still buried.
