food poisoning is an unbrella term that includes alot of different illnesses. Common food poisoning will not kill you, it will probably just make you vomit for a while and feel relatively weak. However, 9,000 deaths a year in the U.S. are food related, so you should be carefull regaurdless.

Food poisoning is usually not fatal. However, infants, immuno-compromised individuals, and the elderly can have serious and sometimes fatal complications from food poisoning.

One type of food poisoning that can cause serious harm and sometimes death in even healthy individuals is botulism. Botulism occurs when low acid foods are improperly canned. Symptoms include disturbances in the nervous system such as droopy eyelids, slurred speech, problems with vision, etc. If untreated, death can occur. Therefore, if you suspect that you may have this type of food poisoning, seek medical attention immediately.
