Yes.  Eggshells containt calcium carbonate.  Calcium is essential for all living organisms, including plants.  Calcium makes up one major “micronutrients.”  The three main essential nutrients all plants need to grow are nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium (transcribed on all nutrients as the NPK ratio).  When you buy any kind of plant nutrients, this ratio should be in large print on the bag (1 – 0 – 2 would indicate one part nitrogen, zero parts phosphorous, and two parts potassium.)  These are the macronutrients.

The micronutrients include potassium, zinc, calcium, magnesium, etc.  These micronutrients are also essential to plant growth.  Calcium specifically serves plants in much the same way it serves humans.  It is essential for fast growth and for a strong plant structure (like strong bones in humans).

Yes! Egg shells can be used as fertilizers. First you tkae the egg shells and press them into powder form and mix them with food processors with water and keep grinding them. After that, you sprinkle the powdered eggshell onto the soil.

You can also gather your egg shells and place them on the soil (without grinding them). You can watch your plant grow!

Another method is to take your egg shells and place halves of each in a empty carton. Place your seeds in the egg shells halves. After your seed is sprout, you put the egg shell that has the plant in it into the soil. Later you can watch your plant grow with the egg shell around it.

Lastly, eggshells have calcium in it. Calcium is very useful for all types of plants. Enjoy!
