Coral can survive in fresh water, however, placing coral in a fresh water tank with fish or other plants may result in the death of everything else in the tank. Placing coral in fresh water will slowly raise the pH level in the water, and in the breakdown of the coral, the entire chemical balance of the tank will shift. This can and will do harm to most fresh water fish and plants.
