Most likely coffee grounds will not be able to serve as a viable alternative to traditional biofuels. This is because coffee grounds only yield about 15% of their weight in usable oil for biodiesel production, compared to 100% for things such as fry oil. However, coffee grounds would be a good supplement to existing biodiesel programs, and would provide an efficient recycling method rather than disposing of the grounds in a landfill.
