Yes, this should be done once a month during the summer when the system is being used on a frequent basis. Cleaning the coils of your refridgerator is also a good way to make it more efficient, and save you energy costs in the long run. Defrosting your freezer helps too.
The EPA says maybe: “little evidence exists to indicate that simply cleaning the duct system will increase yoursystem’s efficiency.” However, they do recommend cleaning the vents if they are clearly clogged with debris or dust – if this is the case for your vents, then unclogging them should increase efficiency. The EPA also recommends cleaning the duct system if there is mold growing or they are infested with vermin, for health reasons.
