Can chemicals in toothpaste cause cancer?

Some chemicals in toothpaste have been linked to cancer. For example, triclosan, advertised by some toothpaste companies as an effective anti-bacterial agent, has been found by one UK study to be grouped with chemicals that pose dangers to humans. It has been shown to interact with water to produce a gas that has potential to cause cancer, as well as damage to organ tissue. The ingredient is found in many toothpastes and cleaning agents.
