Can bacteria really get rid of packaging waste?

Microbes can break down packaging waste, eventually, if given enough time. Here, a high school kid figured out that plastic, which usually takes thousands of years to decompose, can be broken down in a few months if the microbes that consume plastic are isolated and concentrated. Generally, the microbes responsible for the break down of many different kinds of waste, are bacteria, which make up a majority of earth’s biomass.
