In case your rug is such bad shape that it can’t be used by anyone else, you still have options! The first website below provides a map of centers and companies that will take in that old carpet. Some recyclers might charge a fee to recycle your rug, but it’s definitely worth inquiring about. Companies can use the carpet yarn to make more products.
If there is no one recycling rugs near you, the second website below suggests that you make the best of your rug–cut it up and place pieces of it under your heavier furniture, make floor mats and car mats, or use strips of it to block weed growth outside.
