California has been experiencing the impact of the massive rainfall that has been occuring in January and February of this year. The LA Times reports the damage caused by flooding of buildings, streets, even freeways. Lightening took down parts of buildings and tornadoes ran through towns. The state is still dealing with its recovery although damage and the signs of deterioration from the flooding can still be seen.
Coastal areas and hill-side homes particularly get hard hit with excess rains, often leading to mudslides and destruction of homes. No matter how great the infrastructure might be, when the earth gets saturated beyond it’s retention rate, the land will move.
