California law prohibits the construction of any new nuclear power plants until technology which would allow for the permanent disposal of spent fuel has been approved by the federal government. There are currently two operating power plants in CA, and five which are not operating. Until better technology exists for waste disposal, no more additional nuclear power will be generated there.
