Is buying in bulk good or bad for the environment?

Buying in bulk is better for the environment in a couple of ways.  It uses less packaging that individually wrapped smaller portions of goods (for example a box of chicken breasts versus a pack of 4 wrapped in plastic).  It is also more efficient on your gas bill to buy in bulk if the product is non perishable or can be frozen and kept, it is just one trip in the car per month instead of one trip a week for groceries.

It also depends what you are purchasing in regards to the environment.  If you are buying organic, locally produced goods, then awesome, but if you are buying mass quantities of corporate farmed goods, then you are supporting a market that produces negative environmental effects.  Always try and be conscious of your purchases and whenever possible do your research.
