Is burning coal worse than burning wood?

According to a 2010 study conducted by environmental officials from Massachussets, wood is worse.  Their six-month study found that biomass fired electricity would result in a 3 percent emissions increase over coal by 2050.  The number was reached by determing how much emissions were released by burning wood, compared to how much is replaced by reforestation.  They found that ultimately, the trees were better used removing carbon from the air produced by coal instead of being burned for fuel.
