Is building restoration a good thing for the environment?

Building restoration can be a good thing for the environment. It maintains a building that is already in existence instead of destroying more habitat to build a new one. Often times materials from the old builder can be donated or reused. The new building will have more efficient materials (perhaps even including heating and air conditioning), which will save energy. Green materials can be used in the restoration to further help protect the environment.
