Is the brown color of the fog in San Francisco due to air pollution or something natural?

When the fog turns a brownish color, it is in fact smog. Smog is polluted air that hangs in the sky over an area. Smog in San Francisco is mainly due to pollution from gasoline-powered vehicles. The city has a “Spare the Air” campaign to combat smog, and public transportation is free on those days.
