Yes, Boeing has been investing a lot of time an money into alternative technologies for airplanes. They are currently working on airplanes that utlizie fuell cell and biofuel technology. Boeing is also implementing new practices in existing airplanes such as alternative, eco-friendly materials for the interior of commercial airlines.
Because of consumer demand Boeing has built the super-efficient 787 Dreamliner that uses 20% less fuel and less materials. The fuselage used to be composed of several pieces, which were fastened together with thousands of aluminum sheets and bolts, is now composed of a single piece. Boeing estimates that change alone eliminates between 40,000 and 50,000 fasteners and over 1,500 sheets.
