Boeing created the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for commercial use. The Dreamliner is estimated to use 20% less fuel per passenger, produce fewer carbon emissions, and will have quieter takeoffs and landings than comparable sized aircrafts. In July, 2010, the 250 seater Dreamliner made its first overseas test flight to Britain at the Farnborough airshow.
While having already introduced the Boeing 787 – a small plane substituting carbon fiber plastic for aluminum, reducing the plane’s weight and therefore, fuel emissions – in 2007, Boeing has recently proposed a hybrid plane that could cut fuel use by up to 90%! There is also a proposed solar-powered plane (by the Solare Impulse Project, not Boeing) that would reduce emissions to ZERO.
