Are bobby pins recyclable?
That depends on if they are all metal or some “monstrous hybrid” with enamel, paint, plastic, or other decorative coatings. The term “monstrous hybrid” usually refers to something that is partly biodegradable and partly something else that is bad for the environment, but I think that the term can be used for any item made with mixed materials. When you get a product with two very different materials that are fused together, it is typically not a good idea to recycle it because the people at the recycling plant will not have any idea what to do with it. However, if you have a rusty bobby pin that is clearly made from just iron, go ahead and recycle it. Magnets at recycling facilities can pick up iron items to separate them from aluminum and other metals.
