Asphalt is a “sticky, black and highly viscous liquid or semi-solid that is present in most crude petroleums”. Asphalt is the binding substance in asphalt concrete (this is what is commonly referred to as asphalt), which is what out roads are made of. The asphalt concrete is made up of asphalt and some aggregate rock. Asphalt is the binding material and gives our roads their black color.
