No, the American bison is no longer an endangered species. In the late 1800’s, human activities such as hunting, changes in land use, and government policies brought the bison population close to extinction. By the end of the century there were less than 1,000 bison left. In recent times however, breeders have been breeding bison, so the population has gone up to about 150,000 in America.
