According to a recent statement by Senator Boxer, chair of the Committee on Environment & Public Works, nuclear will be a part of the energy bill. The bill’s proponents seem to see increasing support for nuclear power in the bill as a way to compromise with its opponents. They hope to swing some extra Republicans over to their side with more incentives for nuclear, which many conservatives are in favor of. So it seems like the energy bill will contain a section in support of nuclear power as well.
Senator Boxer does want to include nuclear power as one of the measures in her energy climate bill. This bill aims to cap greenhouse gas emissions in the United States and will advocate the cap and trade principles. Nuclear power should help to provide additional energy resources, especially in our economic situation. There are debates as to whether money should go towards nuclear or green sources of energy.
