Besides clay what types of soil do they use in landfills?

    Sandy loam, a medium-coarse to fine sandy soil, is typical of landfill soils. You want soils that are more sandy so they can trap any leachates from the landfill and to prevent groundwater contamination. Leachates are produced as a result of water percolating down through the soil in the landfill and can be very toxic. The soil should have the right permeability, should be close to some thick layers of stable rock strata, and should have the right mineral compositions.
