Two former speakers of the house, Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich have been vocal on the issue of climate change, even appearing together in the “We Can Solve It” ad campain from Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection.

Despite recent controversy, Arnold Schwarzenegger is a politician who is fond of ‘going green’.  In September 2006, he signed a bill that would be the first of its kind in the United States.  The bill was to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in California, a first for the state and also a reason for other states to follow suit.  The bill required utilities, manufacturing plants, and refineries to follow regulations on emissions they are allowed to emit.

Other politicians are also interested in the green movement.  On the Republican side: Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and John McCain.  On the Democratic side: Hillary Clinton and John Edwards.

It was also reported that the Democratic convention in 2008 was environmentally friendly with attendees eating on corn based plates and silverware and a stage made of 80% recycled material. (
