Baumrind determined that there are three basic types of parenting:
Permissive: accepting and encouraging of all behaviors and emotions.
Authoritarian: shaping the child’s behavior with an absolute set standard.
Authoritative: shaping the child’s behavior with a rational, changeable, give-and-take standard.
The implications of parenting styles that vary from culture to culture is that what works for societies in some areas may not or sometimes will not work in other areas. In our global culture, people tend to get into arguments about which method is the true correct method, and they tend to chastise those who use unpopular methods.
