I could see a person considering baking soda to be “best friend worthy” since it is a helpful natural cleaner. It is mildly abrasive and non-toxic, so it can be used on many surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom. Also, baking soda can be mixed with a little vinegar and used as an egg replace in some baking recipes. The reaction between the two substances makes baked goods fluffy just like an egg would. The recipe should have a strong flavor to over power the vinegar taste, however.
Baking soda is also an excellent odor remover. Not only can it be used in your refrigerator to absorb odors, it’s also quite effective in removing pet urine odors from carpets and floors. It works best to soak up the urine with towels, saturate the area with a mix of 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar, and then blot up the liquid and sprinkle the area with baking soda. If you’re concerned about staining, you can also follow up with a mix of 3/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide with 1 teaspoon dish detergent.
Baking soda is an amazing product that can be used for an endless amount of tasks. It is a cheap and efficient way to clean just about anything whether it is for your home or body. In that sense it is a great tool for the eco-conscious person.
