Though natural gas is the cleanest-burning fossil fuel, but there are some disadvantages to using it as with anything else. For one, the pipelines required to transport the resource from the field to the site where it will be used are expensive to maintain since they have to be underground. Natural gas consists mostly of methane, which makes it very combustible. In other words, it can cause explosions quite easily if anything sparks. Natural gas is also toxic if too much of it is breathed in, so it’s a good idea to make sure that there are no gas leaks in your home.
One interesting fact is that natural gas is odorless, the smell we smell has been added to it for safety precautions. The scent was added after a London school building explosion in 1937 after the build up of gas went unnoticed. So natural gas having no scent is bad, but we have fixed that in todays society.
