Both forms of the disease are derived from the same types of microbes. Malaria is caused by protozoans from the genus Plasmodium. The protozoans cannon pass directly from birds to humans. The microbes must be transferred by mosquitoes, so it is conceivable that the same microbes can be passed from bird to insect to human and also the other way. This would depend on the mosquito and if it is likely to bite both humans and birds.
