On average, how many forest fires does California have in a year?

Fires in nature are a common occurrence because they trim back overgrowth and nourish the soil through returning nutrients to it. Due to human intervention, these fires are prevented from expanding and therefor the materials that fuels them accumulates to dangerous levels. Dozens of fires happen every year in California’s dry woodlands and grasslands, many of which are prevented from spreading but some can reach dangerously large sizes and force the vacuation of homeowners in the area.
