Is the automatic bike storage system in Tokyo the safest way to park your bike?

Well, it’s probably safer than using a simple padlock. Thieves can cut metal chains and locks to steal a bike, and since this a commercial enterprise (and they probably have video monitoring cameras), this automated storage facility is definitely safer than the former. I don’t know how it would compare to bringing the bike inside another garage or private area… but it’s probably not going to be much safer (I bet there are a lot less stolen / broken into cars in NYC from parking garages than there are from off the streets).
